How To Become A Photographer: How To Make Money And Have Fun With Your Camera
By Michael Lee

A lot of people want to learn how to become a photographer these days. I guess that includes you now as well. The reasons behind this sudden surge of interest vary.

Whether it's the love of photographs that drives you, or the desire to earn money that is pushing you on, it doesn't matter. In the end, you'll find photography a lot of fun; and you can start making some serious cash with it.

So if you want to learn how to become a photographer, start by reading this article!

1) Master your own camera.

When learning how to become a photographer, it is important that you know how to operate your own equipment. It's not so much the model of your camera that matters, but the skill you have.

How will you be able to use your camera to your benefit if you don't know what all the buttons are for? Besides, not knowing how to fiddle with your camera makes you look like an amateur to everybody else. And you don't really want that if you want to succeed in the photography business.

2) Develop a signature style.

There are a lot of amazing photographers in the world. From Annie Leibovitz to Ansel Adams, they each have their own unique style.

Take the time to study their photographs. What made them stand out? What techniques did they use?

As a budding photographer, you can appreciate the talents of fellow photographers and find inspiration in them. And as you experiment with different styles, you'll soon be able to find one that matches your personality.

3) Take a shot.

Of course, all the studying in the world won't do you any good unless you get out there and actually take pictures!

Gather all your best pictures together to make a portfolio. This will serve as your calling card to future gigs and opportunities. Having a real calling card also helps a lot, by the way.

If you want to learn how to become a photographer, you must first understand that you can't always start taking pictures for magazine editorials. No, you have to begin with the clients around you.

Family, friends of family, friends, the local neighborhood… Spread the word about you becoming a freelance photographer. In time, one opportunity will lead to another. And soon, you might actually find yourself shooting in exotic places.

Like any career, photography takes talent and work. However, those who really want to become a photographer will soon realize that it's not hard work when you're having a blast doing it.
