How To Go With The Flow In 3 Easy Steps
By Michael Lee

There are instances when we must break the tide and times when we must learn how to go with the flow. In this particular article, I'm going to teach you how to do the latter.

If you're headstrong and not usually the type to back down, then you need to learn how to adapt to different situations like getting along with other people whose opinions don't exactly reflect your own.

To learn how to go with the flow, read on.

Step 1: Count From 1 To 10.

If you find yourself in a situation that is unexpected, stop yourself from reacting automatically. Instead, count from one to ten slowly; and while doing so, take deep breaths and imagine a soft tidal wave washing away your surprise and distress.

If you want to know how to go with the flow, the first thing you must master is your own impulse. Practice this as often as you can and you'll find yourself dropping the counting altogether.

Step 2: Submit To The Leader.

It's not easy to submit, especially if you're used to being the one in charge; but sometimes, you've got to relax and let somebody else decide what to do.

Think of this as a vacation from your self-imposed duties to always be the one in charge. If you think of it as allowing the other person to take the lead rather than having power taken away from you, then you'll have an easier time adapting.

Step 3: Test Your Limits.

Don't be afraid to put yourself in situations where you'll have to adapt. If you really want to learn how to go with the flow, then you need to expose yourself. You don't have to be extreme about it though, and place yourself in situations that are too much for you to handle.

Test the waters with baby steps and never ever make the mistake of taking in more than you can chew. Safety is still your highest priority, so don't go looking for trouble.

One easy way to test your limits is to leave decision-making to your family. For example, leave them to decide where to have dinner and make your way from there.

Learning how to go with the flow isn't always easy, especially if you're used to handing out directions. Sometimes, however, it's nice to take a break from that role and allow others to take care of things for a change.
